The latest bad boy on the block is definitely sugar, (or is it gluten? more on that in a moment). This has culminated with the understanding that when they HAD to take the fat out of everything, it had to be replaced with some other form of flavour, otherwise we would have died from the blandness of food, so the obvious replacement was sugar. The result being that it is now estimated that the average Australian between the ages of 19 and 30 eats 40 teaspoons of sugar every day, this is not surprising as approximately 80% of all supermarket foods contain added sugar, and close to 100% of all takeaway foods.

So how to avoid consuming so much sugar, and which sugars are ok?

Avoiding processed foods is the easiest way to avoid eating added sugar, eat foods that are as close to their natural state as possible. Foods that don’t require a label should make up at least 80% of your food intake (I would go for 90%), namely vegetables, meat, nuts, fruit, and whole grains.

When I do want to whip up a lovely birthday cake or a ‘just because I feel like it’ dessert, I use Rapadura sugar. Rapadura is the pure juice extracted from the sugar cane (using a press), which is then evaporated over low heats, then sieve ground to produce a grainy sugar. It has not been cooked at high heats and spun to change it into crystals, and the molasses has not been separated from the sugar.  It is produced organically and does not contain chemicals or anti-caking agents….and it tastes so moreish, you will love it!

This is the one I buyRapadura Sugar

NB: Fats and oils are the same or similar chemical substances called hydrocarbons. They are organic solvent in nature but not soluble in water.

Man Made Fats are found in items (I refuse to call it food) such as Margarine, and most processed foods such as bread, cakes, and biscuits. Trans-fat, although it can be found naturally occurring in some milk and meats; the primary dietary source is from the partially hydrogenated oils found in most processed foods. Trans-fats have been implicated in cognitive dysfunction, mental health disorders, coronary heart disease, diabetes, abnormal foetal growth rates, and cancer, to name but a few. Recently the FDA took steps to remove artificial trans fat from the food supply in America. This step is expected to reduce coronary heart disease and prevent thousands of fatal heart attacks every year. Now we just need Australia to come to the party! It is important for you to be aware of Vegetable Oils. I am not sure why they are called vegetable oils as they are actually seed oils. The most common are canola oil, soybean, corn, sunflower, safflower, and peanut. Unlike coconut oil or olive oil that can be extracted by pressing, these ‘vegetable’ oils must be extracted in very unnatural ways, and have been shown to be very destructive to your health.

There is so much discussion to be had on this subject as for years we have been subjected to a fear campaign around the consumption of fat. There are many myths and much dogma that needs to be reversed. Please note:

  1. Fat does not make you fatNatural Fat is not only good for you, it is essential to health.
  2. Low-fat products are a marketing scam, avoid them. (When you take the fat out of a food, it tastes yuck, so they add in a load of cheap nasty processed sugar.)

Instead we want to load up on nourishing fat from natural foods such as avocados, nuts, cold pressed oils (olive, coconut, avocado, walnut, macadamia ect.), whole eggs, chia seeds, fatty fish (wild caught, not farmed), coconut, natural full fat yoghurt, and don’t forget dark chocolate! There is one more oil that you may not have heard of, Inca Inchi Oil. Inca Inchi oil is considered the single richest vegetable source of essential fatty acids, including linoleic Omega 6 and alpha-linolenic Omega 3.  The human body does not manufacture these fatty acids on its own, however, they are imperative to good health.  Inca Inchi oil is also high in antioxidants, including Vitamin A and Vitamin E.  The structure of this oil aids in protecting the skin, hair and nails by limiting dehydration while it strengthens and builds up natural defences to common external and dietary exposures.  Inca Inchi oil is an excellent ingredient to use in products designed to combat inflammation, irritation, dryness, and damage.

This is the one I buyInca Inchi Oil

 All Flours Ain’t Equal

There is plenty of awareness and chatter around being gluten free these days and for good reason, the story of wheat really is the story of food, tens of thousands of people are suffering from ill health and don’t realise it’s a result of the food choices they are making. They often assume it is part of their genetic make-up or the fact of just getting older. People need to become educated, knowledgeable, and aware. They need to start making changes to improve the health of their children and future generations. Recently there was a wonderful Australian documentary released on exactly this topic. I will pop a link for you here so you can check it out for yourself. It really is a must watch for anyone who is concerned about the foods they consume or may have any kind of health concerns because wheat can certainly be the issue for many.

What's With Wheat Products
The big wigs of the agricultural industry have cottoned on to people’s concerns so have now flooded the market with a plethora of gluten free products …. BEWARE! I strongly advise against buying anything labelled gluten-free! WHY??? Well, because 99.9% of them are simple more highly processed, nutrient devoid, food like products. Instead simply buy real foods that don’t contain wheat, barley, or rye. This is sadly harder than it would seem, however sticking to real whole foods that don’t require labels will make life soooooo much easier for you. If your gut is in great shape and you are not suffering from any chronic illness then you may be fine with occasionally having small amounts of gluten. If this is the case then you should go for an ancient wheat variety such as Emmer Wheat. Emmer Wheat caters for people who can eat gluten and are looking to be able to use an ethical, healthy, organic heirloom wheat in their cooking. This is for the mothers of the next generation to cook bread, cakes and muffins with a main ingredient that has not been compromised and will not compromise the health of their children.

Here is the one I buyEmmer Wheat

For those looking to buy gluten free flours consider some of the following:

  • Coconut
  • Sorghum
  • Amaranth
  • Tapioca
  • Rice
  • Chickpea
  • Cassava
  • Almond
  • Buckwheat
  • Teff

So let’s summarise and simplify!

Choose foods delivered to you in a perfect package designed by nature, that your body will utilise and flourish upon.

Avoid foods that are processed, nutrient devoid, chemically ladened, man-altered food like substances, these make your body sick and sad.

The Impact of BPA’s (Bisphenol A) on Human Health.

You may well have noticed that many plastic products and canned foods you now buy are proudly promoting the fact that they are BPA free. So is this something that you should be paying attention to?

What is BPA and why should we be avoiding it?

BPA or Bisphenol A is a synthetic oestrogen that is found in the epoxy coating of food cans as well as being a component of many plastics. In addition to this BPA is commonly employed as a colour developer in thermal papers. Consequently, BPA derived from thermal papers has been considered an important source of exposure for humans, since this chemical may migrate from paper to skin upon contact. (2)

BPA is found in polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins.

Polycarbonate plastics are often used in containers that store food and drinks, water bottles being one. (1)

Epoxy resins are used to coat the inside of metal products, such as food cans, bottle tops and water supply lines.

Some dental sealants and composites also may contain BPA. (1)

There is a large body of information about the hazards of BPA to be found, and whilst there are still assurances of its safety from the FDA, it is safe to say that BPA’s are worth avoiding. They are unquestionably endocrine and metabolic disruptor’s in so far as they imitate other hormones, interfere with hormone signalling, tell cells to die prematurely, increase production of certain hormones and decrease production of others, and complete with essential nutrients.

Some useful tips to avoiding BPA’s

BPA free

  • Choose glass over plastic where ever possible
  • Avoid handling shopping receipts (thermal papers) as they are coated with BPA
  • Note companies whose packaging is registered as BPA free. (
  • Carefully research any dental sealants and composites before agreeing to procedures.

Genetic and Epigenetic factors in energy balance and body weight.

An individual’s predisposition to a healthy energy balance and body weight is determined by a variety of influences, both genetic and epigenetic. In addition to the instructions laid down in an individual’s genetic blueprint, environmental influences (epigenetics) during both critical developmental periods, and further on into adult life, are instrumental in determining the outcome of those instructions.

Natural selection is the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. And energy availability is the most important environmental factor for sustainable reproduction [1]. This is a fundamental part of the puzzle when considering why our bodies lay down fat stores when energy (food) input is high.

This is where epigenetics steps in.

Never before have we as a species had access to such an unfailing abundance of food. Unfortunately our evolutionary blueprint has yet to catch up with this knowledge, so continues to store for leaner times ahead, a time that simply never arrives. Adding to this genetic predisposition, it would appear that obese mothers tend to have significantly more children than their lean counterparts; obesity is therefore likely to increase from generation to generation for purely genetic reasons [2]. And apparently ‘the exquisite system for regulation of energy balance is established just once in each individual’s life’ [3].

So whilst genetics can certainly lay down the blueprint for obesity it is our epigenetic influences that are the greatest determiner of outcome. In the context of energy balance we have to look at the simple fact that in our society we see an alarming increase in daily energy intake, alongside this phenomenon we also see that energy expenditure has been dramatically decreasing, predominantly due to advances in technology and the ever increasing nature of sedentary work practices. However the popularly touted ‘energy in’ versus ‘energy out’ theory is only part of the puzzle.

For the purposes of this article I will look at what I consider to be two of the most influential factors predisposing individuals to problems with energy balance and body weight; they are Leptin and Hedonic Hunger.

Leptin is our master hormone and is amongst other things, responsible for telling our brain we have had enough energy in take, stop eating! Unfortunately leptin is susceptible to negative epigenetic influences which lead to leptin resistance. These influences are varied; however they include poor food choices, electron availability in our environment, triglyceride levels and even energy expenditure. To put simply what Leptin resistance is, it is when the body is producing leptin but the brain can’t see it, therefore the brain thinks you are starving. As a result your body will increase energy storage (store fat), and conserve energy use (feel lethargic). The obvious consequences are imbalanced energy and body weight.

Hedonic Hunger is a term used to describe cravings associated with food addiction. It is now recognised that highly palatable foods activate the mesocorticolimbic reward circuits of the brain by the release of dopamine, as well as other neurotransmitters and hormones like the endogenous opiates. [4] In simpler terms ‘as food became more processed and altered by the manufacturing industry, they began to take on more and more properties of addictive drugs, largely because of the ingredients that were added to enhance the taste of food [5].

Even with this brief look at energy balance and the effect on body weight we can see that both genetic and epigenetic influences make up a very complex and possibly overwhelming picture considering the obesity epidemic we, as a developed country, are facing. However I would argue that knowledge is power, and being empowered to change the epigenetic influences that we now know are so causative in this picture, we are equipped to make important changes to benefit the lives of many.

The further from the truth

The uncomfortable truth is that the Agricultural and Pharmaceutical companies are the biggest, most profitable, and therefore the most powerful industries in the world today. These are the companies that are slowly but surely destroying not only our health, but the health of our planet.

To make truly educated decisions you must look further than mainstream media. Australian media ownership has been described as one of the most concentrated in the world. For example, 11 of the 12 capital city daily papers are owned by either News Corp Australia or Fairfax Media. (

Did you know that companies pay to get the 'healthy tick of approval' on their products? And that The Australian Dieticians Association is heavily sponsored by several massive food companies, with a vested interest in promoting their own agenda, e.g. Nestle. This explains their vile attacks on people like Chef Pete Evans, who's only real agenda is to get people eating vital, unprocessed, real food.

Any companies that vigilantly promote immune destructive forces such glyphosate, GMO's, and mass vaccinations (regardless of the immune status of the individual), should be viewed with enormous scepticism.

The agricultural industry designed the Food Pyramid that has been responsible for untold damage to the health of our society for generations. (Death by Food Pyramid ).Even until 2015, these lies were still being taught to our children in schools.

We are all being bombarded with endlessly conflicting information, which I know can be truly overwhelming when trying to do the best thing, by not only our own health, but also by the health of our families. To cut through the confusion look to what nature provides. We have evolved to eat what our planet provides us, not to eat products scientifically engineered to look like food.

Our bodies are innately intelligent, and if fed the right foods we have the ability to be vitally healthy, without the need for pharmaceutical intervention. The discovery of antibiotics was indeed an enormous success story, they have been responsible for saving countess lives. However due to relentless promotion by pharmaceutical companies to Dr's, and the perks that came with selling vast quantities of these drugs, we are now facing a situation where antibiotics are often no longer doing the job that they were intended for. The same situation is happening with diseases that we vaccinate against, these viruses are simply adapting and becoming more virulent. Lets use the medically industry as it was intended, and that is for crisis care, and just in case there is any doubt, for the VAST MAJORITY the flu is not a crisis! It is uncomfortable, it is inconvenient, but it is OK. You will get over it if your body is fed what it needs to do its job .....

IT IS YOUR BODIES MOST PRESSING DESIRE TO KEEP YOU HEALTHY AND ALIVE ........ IT IS YOUR DIVINE PURPOSE to support it in doing this. Feed it vital, real, unprocessed, chemical free foods. Move your body. Give yourself time in nature. You will be rewarded.

LEPTIN. Its role in Fat, Energy and Wellbeing.

To explain to you what leptin is and how vital it is to your health, let’s use an analogy. Consider what living things require to grow, function and survive. By living things I mean plants and animals (humans). For the sake of this discussion let’s compare a tree and a human. A tree has its roots in the ground 100% of the time and its canopy up in the atmosphere 100% of the time. The tree is therefore permanently connected to the earth’s magnetic field and only needs the sun and water to grow. A human on the other hand is designed to move across the earth so is not connected to the earth or the sun 100% of the time. For this reason evolution gave us a back-up system, fat. The cycle of making, breaking, storing and mobilizing fats is at the core of how humans and all animals regulate their energy. Leptin is made in fat cells and leptin controls fat.

As you may or may not know, all living organisms are influenced by the earth’s magnetic field, how much sun/light is present in the day and how strong that sun/light is. This is called circadian biology. Leptin in our bodies is directly tied to circadian signalling in the environment. Leptin is the master hormone and determines how all the other hormones work in the body. This is why Leptin our single most important hormone.

To make energy PLANTS use sunlight, magnetism and water, whereas HUMANS use sunlight, magnetism, water and food.

So What is Leptin Resistance and What are the Consequences?

To put it simply, Leptin resistance is when the body is producing leptin but the brain can’t see it, therefore the brain thinks you are starving. As a result your body will increase energy storage (store fat), and conserve energy use (feel lethargic).

To help clarify let’s use another analogy. If the fuel gage in your car is broken you would be constantly filling up with fuel because there would be nothing to tell you how much fuel you are carrying. When you have Leptin resistance the same thing is happening in your body, so you will continue to eat because the body can’t decipher how much fuel you have already.

The obvious consequences of leptin resistance are obesity and fatigue. However due to the influence of leptin in all areas of the body the consequences can be much further reaching with ties to Type 2 Diabetes, Hashimoto’s, Infertility, many other Auto Immune Diseases, and Cancer.

When discussing treatments with your health care provider, I would suggest looking at strategies to decrease insulin resistance, and reducing triglyceride levels as these both play a role in interfering with leptin. The most effective treatments involve diet and exercise, so ensure this is part of your treatment discussion.

To my mind there is no question that the supplement industry is just another product of our industrialized world. Once again science and industry are have successfully installed a dogma that is well entrenched, this is the belief that our health is reliant on the inclusion of carefully developed nutrients derived from highly intelligent, well educated, groups of people in a sterile laboratory that can bottle an easy answer, or shortcut, to wellbeing.

Working on the notion that we are vitalistic beings that are part of a whole living system’s functionality, a multivitamin pill simply cannot effectively resonate within this system. It stands to reason that a vitamin that is obtained from the consumption of a whole food will be balanced with all that is needed for the body to effectively utilize that vitamin. This theory continues to apply regardless of the class of nutrient the multivitamin is sourced from, be it natural, synthetic, food cultured, etc. In all classes the vitamin has been isolated from nature and reintroduced in an artificial setting.

The notion has existed for many centuries that the addition of certain nutrients may assist the body’s innate intelligence in overcoming periods of ‘dis’ease. Manuscripts recovered from Egypt dating back as far as 2000BC talk about the use of castor oil, aloe, mint, myrrh, copper, lead, salt, cedar, and opium, although it would appear that remedies used without magical words were valueless or failed to have their full effect [1]. It was not until very recently however, that orthomolecular therapy, (orthomolecular meaning ‘right molecule’) became the therapy of choice for countless millions.

It was Linus Pauling in 1968 who introduced the concept of Orthomolecular Therapy. He was sure that the isolation of vitamin C would be effective for the treatment of the common cold. He postulated that people’s needs for vitamins and other nutrients vary markedly and that to maintain good health, many people need amounts of nutrients much greater than the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDAs) [2]. Whilst Pauling’s findings may have indeed been accurate, it was and is the method of delivery that is questionable.

Approximately 1500 years before Pauling, Hippocrates is famously said “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” Hippocrates revolutionized the practice of medicine by shifting western medicine from the religious to the “rational.” He believed doctors should analyse symptoms on a case-by-case basis, instead of having blanket causes and/or cures for each disease [3]. In contrast to this philosophy the supplement industry is proposing a blanket ‘cure’ for one ‘dis’ease, e.g. Vitamin C for a cold, B vitamins for stress, or a multi-vitamin as a general health insurance policy. This model of treatment is very mechanistic and deviates greatly from the notion of treating people on a case-by-case basis.

Current research [7] has shown that the vast majority of people, who take multi-vitamin supplements, tend to be those that are doing so as an addition to a multi-focused approach to health. They tend to be people from more affluent and better educated demographics, who generally have more nutritious diets. With this in mind it is not hard to see that they may in fact be healthier than those that don’t take multi-vitamins, however the fact that they are taking these supplements is not necessarily the reason for their being healthier.

A recent article entitled Enough Is Enough: Stop Wasting Money on Vitamin and Mineral Supplements [4] cites several long term studies looking at the efficacy of multi-vitamin use:

First, Fortmann and colleagues [5] systematically reviewed trial evidence to update the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation on the efficacy of vitamin supplements for primary prevention in community-dwelling adults with no nutritional deficiencies. After reviewing 3 trials of multivitamin supplements and 24 trials of single or paired vitamins that randomly assigned more than 400 000 participants, the authors concluded that there was no clear evidence of a beneficial effect of supplements on all-cause mortality, cardiovascular disease, or cancer [4].

Second, Grodstein and co-workers [6] evaluated the efficacy of a daily multivitamin to prevent cognitive decline among 5947 men aged 65 years or older participating in the Physicians’ Health Study II. After 12 years of follow-up, there were no differences between the multivitamin and placebo groups in overall cognitive performance or verbal memory [4].

Following several other researcher’s conclusions, the authors of Enough is Enough, concluded that “multivitamin and mineral supplements are ineffective for preventing mortality or morbidity due to major chronic diseases” [4].

Contrary to the above conclusion, it is not difficult to find research papers that promote the use of multi-vitamins due to finding that support their efficacy. A Randomized Trial of Multivitamin Supplements and HIV Disease Progression and Mortality concluded that Multivitamin supplements delay the progression of HIV disease and provide an effective, low-cost means of delaying the initiation of antiretroviral therapy in HIV-infected women [8]. This being the case there may be sound evidence that supports the use of multi-vitamins in the case of chronic illness, however the use of these supplements as a preventative therapy in general use seems to be a pointless exercise.

To my mind, the use of multi-vitamins is an elaborate marketing ploy used by the supplement industry aimed to make us think that we need multivitamins in our diets for good health. All the evidence and research found, does not sway me from the belief that getting micro-nutrients from our food is the most effective way to maximise our health. There are common, and mostly justified, concerns around the availability of micro-nutrients in our food supply. Awareness of this and education about the sorts of foods we should be eating will be far more beneficial to our world’s health than taking multi-vitamin supplements.

 Vaccination Articles

Tetyana Obukhanych, who holds a PhD in Immunology, is writing this letter in the hope that it will correct several common misperceptions about vaccines in order to help you formulate a fair and balanced understanding that is supported by accepted vaccine theory and new scientific findings.

  1. Do unvaccinated children pose a higher threat to the public than the vaccinated?
  2. How often do serious vaccine adverse events happen?
  3. Is discrimination against conscientious vaccine objectors the only practical solution?

A shocking admission by the editor of the world’s most respected medical journal, The Lancet, has been virtually ignored by the mainstream media. Dr. Richard Horton, Editor-in-chief of the Lancet recently published a statement declaring that a shocking amount of published research is unreliable at best, if not completely false, as in, fraudulent.

Family to Receive $1.5M+ in First-Ever Vaccine-Autism Court Award

To understand the autism-vaccine debate one must look outside of the heavily Big Pharma funded mainstream media.

Dr Hooker, a PhD scientist, worked with two members of Congress to craft the letter to the CDC that recently resulted in his obtaining long-awaited data from the CDC, the significance of which is historic. According to Hooker, the data on over 400,000 infants born between 1991 and 1997, which was analysed by CDC epidemiologist Thomas Verstraeten, MD, “proves unequivocally that in 2000, CDC officials were informed internally of the very high risk of autism, non-organic sleep disorder and speech disorder associated with Thimerosal exposure.

A top researcher at the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Dr William Thompson, admits he played a key role in helping uncover data manipulation by the CDC. This fraud obscured a higher incidence of autism in African-American boys due to the MMR vaccine.

Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline has agreed to pay $US3 billion in fines, in the largest case of healthcare fraud in United States history. GSK was fined for marketing drugs for unauthorised uses, holding back safety data, and cheating the US government’s Medicaid program.

Dr Robin Mesnage of the Department of Medical and Molecular Genetics at Kings College in London, revealed new data analysis showing RoundUp is 1,000 times more toxic than Glyphosate alone. “Glyphosate is everywhere throughout our food chain – in our food and water. The lack of data on toxicity of Glyphosate is not proof of safety and these herbicides cannot be considered safe without proper testing. We know Round Up, the commercial name of Glyphosate based herbicides, contains many other chemicals which, when mixed together are 1,000 times more toxic than Glyphosate on its own.”

Falsifying vaccine results with spiked rabbit blood and risking people’s health, lying scientists, inhumane treatment of rabbits.. where does it end?

We wonder how many times these scientists aren’t caught committing fraud and deception.

THE parents of a WA girl who has been awarded millions in damages after a defective flu jab left her severely disabled say they it’s a “massive relief” the legal battle is over.

Vaccination is a subject to which I bring quite deep industry experience having worked as a senior commercial executive in medical science for 12 years and in other sciences for another three. I’ve been involved in TGA and FDA approval processes, clinical trials, medical manufacture, medical product R&D, and in commercial relationships with universities.

In March 2015, a Danish national television station (TV2) aired a documentary focusing on girls who suspected they had been injured by the HPV vaccine Gardasil. Immediately after the airing of the show, girls with similar experiences started coming out of the woodwork. Virtually all of the girls had the same story to tell.

I’m neither for vaccine nor against it. I’m also certainly not an expert on the subject. My view with this issue is about simply protecting my child the best way I can. I have never been one to just go along with the crowd however, and so I have had many serious questions about vaccination. I wanted to find out particularly why some people are so very against it.

Stephanie Seneff is a Senior Research Scientist at the MIT Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. She received the B.S. degree in Biophysics in 1968, the M.S. and E.E. degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1980, and the Ph.D degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1985, all from MIT. For over three decades, her research interests have always been at the intersection of biology and computation: developing a computational model for the human auditory system, understanding human language so as to develop algorithms and systems for human computer interactions, as well as applying natural language processing (NLP) techniques to gene predictions. She has published over 170 refereed articles on these subjects, and has been invited to give keynote speeches at several international conferences. She has also supervised numerous Master’s and PhD theses at MIT. In 2012, Dr. Seneff was elected Fellow of the International Speech and Communication Association (ISCA).

In recent years, Dr. Seneff has focused her research interests back towards biology. She is concentrating mainly on the relationship between nutrition and health. Since 2011, she has written over a dozen papers (7 as first author) in various medical and health-related journals on topics such as modern day diseases (e.g., Alzheimer, autism, cardiovascular diseases), analysis and search of databases of drug side effects using NLP techniques, and the impact of nutritional deficiencies and environmental toxins on human health.

How Vaccines change the way we think about disease.

The recent increase in the number of philosophical objectors to measles vaccine shows that historical consensus about the disease itself has eroded in recent years. But history also shows that one surefire route to consensus about a disease is fear of that disease. And fear often spreads like wildfire during disease outbreaks, much like what is happening once again now with measles.

In the HPV category alone, suspected ADRs numbered 8,228, of which 2,587 were classified as “serious” – defined by several criteria, including whether it resulted in hospitalisation or was deemed life threatening or was regarded as serious by the individual reporting it.

Within hours of receiving the vaccines, 37 babies out of a total of 52 vaccinated had adverse reactions; some began to convulse with the tragic result of two dead and 37 hospitalized, 13 of whom reported to be in critical condition.

Judges demand answers after children die in controversial cancer vaccine trial in India

Tony Abbot decided to reject what he considered to be a safe and effective vaccine for his own daughters—for whatever bizarre reasons he cared to advance. Because he had the right to choose. And because he held a high post in government. And because he decided he could do whatever he wanted to do. But now, flashing forward nine years, Tony is telling every person in Australia what they have to do. No choice. No freedom. No right to seek out information independently and make a decision based on that information. Australia is a medical police state, with Tony, the old vaccine refuser, at the helm. If that isn’t cause for uproar in the Land Down Under, what is?

For the vast majority of the population, who use the supermarkets to do all their food shopping, seasonal eating is no longer a consideration. With the modern practices of cold storage and vast food mileage items, the notion of only eating what is in season is no longer a consideration. We now have access to watermelons in the middle of winter and apples 365 days of the year.

The best way in which you can encourage an accurately seasonal diet is to have your own vegetable garden and orchard.

If this is not possible then seeking out a local farmers market and purchasing your food from someone that is growing fresh seasonal produce in your local area.

A third suggestion is to print out a seasonal food guide for your area and stick it up in your kitchen. This will be an easy reference as to which foods would currently be in season. Use this information when making up your shopping list.

Our ancestors once had to put considerable effort into accessing foods, whereas nowadays the majority of the Western World has very quick, easy and cheap access to food 24 hours a day. Our ancestors would have had natural periods of fasting due to a failed hunt or due to lean harvesting times. These fasting periods were a natural and necessary requirement by the body to allow times for performing other tasks besides digestion. However now we see extreme health problems arising from the constant and vast quantities of food being consumed.

Awareness around eating smaller meals, and allowing the body to actually become hungry before you feed it.

Education around periods of fasting.

Our ancestors ONLY had access to real, organic foods. Nowadays the prevalence of consumable food items, which the body barely recognizes as food, is vast. The diet of our population is often made up of consumable items that are genetically modified, chemically saturated, highly processed and completely devoid of anything derived from our natural world.

In Australia, beautifully fresh, organic, grass fed produce is available to those that make it a priority.

The wild caught meats, that our ancestors used to eat, grazed on a diet that was varied and natural pertaining to the seasons. During the summer months they had a higher fat content and conversely during the winter months they were leaner. Our bodies were biologically in tune with this rhythm. Nowadays our farmed meats are fed grass for a period, if lucky, and then are fattened up on a grain based diet that is unnatural for them. This means that the vast majority of available meat comes from unnaturally raised, sick animals. The same applies to our seafood. Wild caught fish has a varied, natural diet, whereas farmed fish is fed all sorts of unnatural foods. It is also worth considering the vast quantities of chemical exposure that these animals endure, be it through their food source or antibiotics, and consequently pass onto the consumer.

Seek out organic, free range, grass fed meats and wild caught seafood.

We now live in such a global world that we have easy access to foods that originate from every corner of the plant. For example, those that live in the colder southern states of Victoria have year round access to tropical fruits from the far north of Queensland. A Further consequence to our global world is the relocation of people from very differing cultures into a completely foreign culinary world. For example it is likely that a Japanese person relocating to Australia would be exposed to a completely different way of eating, a way of eating that would be an enormous challenge to the microbiome they inherited and created through their ancestors and their upbringing on a traditional Japanese diet.

Awareness around what foods are best suited to the individual.

A positive consequence of our global world is relatively easy access to culturally different foods.

GMO plate

So what are GMO’s?

Genetic Modified Organism or Genetic Engineering (GE) is a form of biotechnology that allows scientists to move genes between different species. For example, scientists have put spider genes into goats in the hope that they can milk them and use the protein to make bullet proof vests [1]. Using various laboratory techniques, scientists can create life forms that could not occur naturally. The ability of scientists to mix and match across species and kingdoms is technology that defies the laws of nature.

Currently GMO’s are being used to produce two types of crops.

  • Firstly herbicide-tolerant crops which are genetically engineered to resist herbicides that farmers spray on the crop to kill weeds, namely glyphosate, commonly known as Roundup. These represent 80% of GE crops.

The World Health Organisation’s cancer agency has declared the world’s most widely used weedkiller – glyphosate – a “probable human carcinogen” in a move that will alarm the agrochemical industry and amateur gardeners. [2]

  • Secondly are BT crops, these are genetically engineered to produce their own pesticide to kill certain insect pests. These represent 20% of GE crops.

The latest research reveals that BT toxins are turning up in pregnant women and killing human embryo cells and unborn babies. Where did these toxins come from? The only possible explanation is that they came from man-manipulated genetically-modified BT crops. Nothing else in the world can spread them to humans. [3]

WOW …… surely scientist and government officials aren’t going to be releasing GE technologies without being sure it’s a good thing ….. are they?

There are a multitude of credible scientific studies that clearly demonstrate why GMOs should not be consumed, and more are emerging every year. There are also a number of scientists all around the world who oppose them [4]. There has been insufficient research to ensure the safety of GMO’s. GMO’s have been put in our food supply despite the fact that there is good research to show harmful side effects. This is why I cannot see any advantage to having GMO’s being grown anywhere in the world at this time.

The BT corn is a bacterium that kills insects by putting holes in their stomach, and has now been proven to do the same in the cells in humans. This has been linked to many diseases ranging from gastrointestinal disorders, leaky gut, and various autoimmune diseases.

The herbicide-tolerant crops are being heavily sprayed with Roundup, the main ingredient of which is glyphosate. Glyphosate, which is not only being spayed over crops, but is also being used as a ripening agent, has been shown to kill the beneficial bacteria in our gut, suppress digestive enzymes and effects the microvilli. This is just a small number of the verified side-effects of having this toxin in our food supply.

So how do we go about avoiding these foods?

Look for foods labelled non-GMO and familiarize yourself with companies that are choosing to avoid the use of GMO’s e.g. . Buying organic produce where ever possible is a great option. You can download a non-GMO shopping guide off the internet that will make it easier for you when in the supermarket e.g. .

Question MarksThis is possibly the most divisive subject in the health care world at the moment. The fact that it incites such massive responses, from both sides of the debate, is a very strong indicator that there is a great deal of fear involved. Fear that is understandable, considering the coverage in the media, regarding herd immunity and the implications of the removal of choice from parents as to whether or not to vaccinate our children.

At this point I would like to be clear that my stance is very much in the camp of Pro-data, Pro-truth, and Pro-choice. This is not a purely black and white issue. What I am conscious of is the very biased coverage by mainstream media. Why this is should certainly be considered. I have been researching and debating this subject for the past 15 years, and in that time my opinions have ebbed and flowed and I can insure you, as a parent, I have at time agonised over decisions made. In the end the only advice I will give you is to trust your gut.

If we look at the health of our children it is not hard to see reason for alarm. The rise of disease has been extraordinary. Allergies, asthma, digestive disorders, ADHD, obesity, diabetes and autism are escalating at epidemic proportions.

We are seeing huge numbers of children being born with compromised immune systems, why? (This is another subject in itself). If when these children are born they are injected with strongly immune challenging vaccines it is no wonder we are seeing some devastating reactions. According to Dr Natasha Campbell-Mcbride “it is the state of our immune systems that are the problem, not so much the vaccines”. “Vaccinations, which saved the lives of millions of children world-wide in the last century, are becoming dangerous thanks to changes in our life styles. The number of immune-compromised children in developed countries is enormous and growing every day. It is time for the medical profession and governments to review their attitude to vaccinations. The rule to vaccinate everybody has to change.”[1] Dr McBride puts forward the suggestion that a comprehensive immunological survey should be performed on every baby before a decision about vaccination is made.

  1. A questionnaire to assess the health history of the parents and the infant.
  2. A comprehensive stool and urine analysis to assess any risk of gut dysbiosis in the baby.
  3. A test to assess the infant’s immune status.

There is also a strong argument to administer single vaccines only rather than combined vaccines. In immune compromised children the assault of receiving exposure to up to 3 immune stressors at one time is simply unmanageable and catastrophic life altering consequences result.

We have to remember that vaccines are commercial products that are making pharmaceutical companies vast profits.
